Services
Assessment
The first step to effective and successful speech language pathology intervention is an individual in-depth assessment of speech, receptive/expressive language skills and oral motor structure and function.
Assessment procedures are determined based on the child's age and nature of their disorder. The initial assessment takes between one and one-and-a-half hours. Upon completion of the testing, preliminary findings are reviewed with the client and client's family. A comprehensive report is written and sent to the client and their referring physician.
Therapy
An individualized treatment plan is established for each client. With very young children, therapy is often conducted in a play environment. Parent counseling and education are ongoing in order to ensure consistent carryover into the home.
Intervention activities for older children encompass a wide range of speech and language games, literacy activities, and multi-sensory techniques. This makes language learning fun!
Therapy Sessions
Speech-language therapy sessions are conducted in both individual and group format and range in duration from thirty to forty five minutes per visit. Frequency of visits is dependent upon the client's age and the severity of his or her disorder.
